Bifolds HistoryThe earliest mention of bifold doors dates back to the Temple of Soloman around 953 BC, however they only really grew in popularity during the 19th century. This was the period that closets became common fixtures in households and bifold doors became appealing to owners who wanted an alternative to the standard swing door. Throughout the last century bifold doors have fluctuated in popularity as different styles have become fashionable. However, recently they've become increasingly desirable and many people are rediscovering their appeal. Although they're still mostly used for smaller spaces such as closets, bifold doors are also becoming used more and more on exterior applications. There are many different styles of doors available and many manufacturers will provide bespoke designs. The majority of people find bifold doors so appealing because they take up far less space than standard doors. They don't need to be centered into a supporting wall and free up the homeowner to more options. They also create a new look to a home and allow light to flow in from outside if you opt for exterior doors - perfect if you're thinking of giving your home a bit of a revamp. |
